The funniest anagram of "Spider-Man" that I could find was "I Sperm Dan", a title which I am not prepared to give to a blag post.
I enjoyed this film. It contained long stretches of not taking itself seriously, and a ridiculous shot of Spider-Man pausing in front of a fluttering Stars and Stripes before saving New York, as he does. It also features an emo Peter Parker, who looks something like a cross between Fall Out Boy and Peter Petrelli from Heroes. (I only realised why he looked familiar and why I kept expecting him to have more superpowers than "being a spider" after the film. Also, you should all go watch Heroes.) Anyway. It's pretty obviously not some kind of revolutionary art cinema, but as far as massive-budget, special-effects-ridden comic book adaptations go, it's not bad.
I was pleased to find that my somewhat clichéd criminal photographic exploits provoked laughter from a fairly large proportion of the cinema. I'm such a sucker for attention. The folks on the row just behind me saw me getting my camera out and were making excited anticipatory noises, which also made me happy.

So while I was at Yale visiting
k0hlrabi, some of 24 season 1 was watched. I wonder if Sun Microsystems know that their logo is in one of the warehouses. (It's the scene with Kim and ... the other girl, whatever the hell her name is ... with the junkie while they're trying to escape Rick, in about the fourth episode.)
Also, I just finished watching Requiem for a Dream, which seems to be rather good. I particularly liked the sequence where the camera shook with the waveform of the audio. Yes.

On September 12, 2003, during the provincial election campaign in Ontario, Canada, a press release disseminated by the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party contained a line at the end that referred to rival Ontario Liberal Party leader Dalton McGuinty as an evil reptilian kitten-eater from another planet. Presumably, the release was not intended seriously, but did no good for the Conservative party campaign.

. Yes, thank you for clearing that detail up, Wikipedia.
Also, the bad guys in Taxi are tall, blonde, blue-eyed Germans who cackle manaically.
Sorry, that was a fairly tasteless April fool. I'll partly blame #lugradio, but not entirely. (Hey, at least it wasn't as moronic as lilo's clonebot "prank". (Note that his comments are moderated, and he hasn't approved any of our criticisms.)
You probably already heard the news, but I tend to be behind the times with this stuff. Christopher Walken died of a heart attack yesterday lunchtime. :( Totally sucks... No more classic performances like All-American Murder.
RIP, Chris. You'll be missed.

So for all the It's a film about teenage Swedish lesbians
surrounding it, it is indeed a really good film. The acting is awesome; the script has funny parts, but not at the expense of the rest of the film; the setting is convincing and involving; and general goodness. See it.
(Unless you want to watch it because you know that it's called Fucking Åmål in Sweden and features teenage lesbians. It's not even remotely pornographic. Unless you found *thinks* Casper pornographic, because people kiss in it. If you did, then... well... I'm not sure I want to know you =])
I want to go to a rave... or mug a pensioner.
Oh, actually, the subtitling was a bit infuriating, because they kept translating things in a massively abbreviated fashion (more so than is usual). For instance, about 5 seconds of rapid-fire dialog translated to I'm grounded?
. Makes me want to learn Swedish. :-)

I saw Night Watch (Ночной Дозор) last night with
eak_d at the Phoenix. Interesting. They had a lot of good ideas, and the filming was excellent, but they fell down a bit by being bad at tying up plot lines without resorting to cop-outs, and not really making there be a coherent plot. Still, worth seeing, if you like films about vampires and such like.

Got myself a copy of The Flaming Lips' Yohimi Battles The Pink Robots from eBay, who don't get a link. It's much lighter than I had expected, but is awesome. Highly recommended.

So someone kindly created an alternative trailer to The Shining, making out that it's not a horror film. The alternative trailer concept is cool, but sadly this one just basically ignores half the plot rather than coming up with a totally different plot.
Se7en is a cool movie about <spoiler>n ahgpnfr zheqrevat crbcyr nppbeqvat gb gur Frira Qrnqyl FvafGZ</spoiler>. And
k0hlrabi and chums have created an alternative trailer corresponding to a somewhat, erm, different plot. It's awesome.

So I read K-PAX (and K-PAX II, and K-PAX III) quite some time ago, but only just got around to watching the film. I like Kevin Spacey, so I was optimistic. I wasn't disappointed. It got the balance right between the feel-good and the ... not-so-feel-good elements of the plot. I don't get why Gene Brewer was randomly renamed to Mark Powell, but I do understand why they rearranged his family situation. The characters were believable, felt human, and so on.
I'm really bad at film reviews, so I'll stop there, particularly since I seem to be unable to speak about the film without comparing it to the books (which I thought rocked). I enjoyed it. If you're not into stuff about space, don't be put off by the film's premise: it's not SF in the slightest. It's involving, and very well done.
Oh, while I'm here, djm's email to play.com is amusing.
