Right, I'm up with my grandma for Christmas. She (and a few others from this branch of my family) live on Rousay in Orkney. If you run over to Google Maps and look at Rousay, you'll see that it's ... isolated. Needless to say, I'm back to dialup. I made my Toshiba Satellite A50-112 laptop's software modem work! It seemed to be harder this year than it was last year. Here's what I had to do. Maybe someone else will find this useful!

I thought this was a nice real-life analogue (sp?) of that great Unix lesson, which I ignored to my cost a while back. So I was all geared up for going to a party in [some place about 2 hours by train from Oxfjord] tonight, and phoned the host to say I was running a bit late:

(I had got it, and hadn't read it properly. Good thing I'm running late, or I'd be exactly 24 hours early. :-)


Also, I appear to have invented including links to earlier posts. Why has no-one thought of that before? ;-)
